FLORON works on a principle of epi-fluorescence microscopy. During this process, excitation light is passed from above through the objective lens onto the specimen. The fluorescence in the specimen gives rise to emitted light; which is then focused to the detector by the same objective lens that is used for excitation. Since, most of the excitatory light is transmitted through the specimen; only reflected light reaches the objective along with the emitted light. Emission filter then absorbs all reflected- excited light and passes the emitted light in the form of an image to the detector.


Principle of Fluorescence Microscopy
Most cellular components are colourless and cannot be clearly distinguished under a microscope. The basic premise of fluorescence microscopy is to stain the components with dyes. Fluorescent dyes, also known as fluorophores or fluorochromes are molecules that absorb excitation light at a given wavelength and after a short delay emit a light at a longer wavelength. The emitted light can then be filtered from the excitation light to reveal the location of fluorophor processed specimen using emission filter.

Fluorescence microscopy is a unique way of using a microscope to discover facts about specimens that are not often shown by standard bright field microscopy. In bright field microscopy, specimens are illuminated externally either from above or below and dark objects are seen against a light background.

In fluorescence microscopy, specimens are self illuminated by internal light; therefore bright objects are seen in vivid colour against a dark background. Bright objects against dark background are spotted more easily. This characteristic of fluorescence microscopy makes it very sensitive and specific.

It is considered to be an extremely effective tool in detection of many diseases like malaria, tuberculosis, microfilaria etc. As a matter of fact, WHO recommends use of fluorescence microscopy in tuberculosis diagnosis.

FLORON with its dedicated 480nm wavelength works wonderfully with various fluorescent probes like acridine orange, acridine yellow, auramine O, FITC etc.

Electrical board with an input voltage of 220 volts. Please ensure proper earthing requirements.


● Place the FLORON unit on a stable, vibration free platform in a clean, dust-free environment.


Ensure proper assembly of Fluorescence lens adaptor with L.E.D. illuminator.

Fix L.E.D. illuminator with fluorescence lens adaptor to microscope nose piece as shown in the picture.

Connect I.T.E. power supply box with L.E.D. illuminator as shown in picture. Plug in power-chord and switch on the electrical connection.

Can I attach FLORON to my existing microscope ?
Yes. Floron is fitted with universal RMS threaded fluorescence lens adaptor. so almost all RMS compatible microscopes can be used.
what input voltage is required to use FLORON ?
Floron works efficiently with a range of input voltage from 110v up to 240v.
what magnification FLORON works with ?
Floron is fitted with specially designed high working distance oil immersion objective of 60x magnification.
What care should be taken to maximize FLORON's life?
Your FLORON attachment is manufactured using most advance technology in LED illumination and some of the world's finest optics. Floron will give you years of great performance without the need of extensive maintenance as is usually associated with conventional quartz halogen lamp systems.
However; it is always recommended to take certain basic precautions to maximize the performance. It is recommended to switch off the system when not in use; and wipe off the immersion oil from objective lensís tip after finishing your work.
What is the excitation and emission wavelength of Floron??
Floron is fitted with excitation filter of 480nm and emission filter of 530nm.
Which Fluorescent dyes can be used with FLORON?
Virtually all dyes covering the 460nm to 480nm wavelength spectrum can be used with FLORON. Acridine orange, acridine yellow, auramine O, FITC etc. are a few examples of dyes that can be used with FLORON.
Can I get FLORON with excitation/emission filter of my choice?
Floron is targeted specifically for diagnosis of malaria, and tuberculosis. However; you may have some specific requirements for other applications. We can help you design the fluorescence lens adaptor with a variety of combinations. Please write to us for with your specific requirements and we will be glad to assist you. Lead time of minimum of 120 days will be required to process special requests.
